Learn Basics of Air Conditioning

Air conditioning is a complicated technical subject. Normally, it is known as HVAC or heating, ventilation and air conditioning. The principles of heat transfer, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics are involved in the functioning of HVAC systems. Any good HVAC is aimed at fulfilling the following functions.

The HVAC system should provide optimal thermal comfort.
The system should ensure proper ventilation and reduction of air infiltration.
The system must make certain that the indoor air quality is acceptable and up to internationally recognised norms.
The system should deliver and remove air from the room in such a manner that the pressure between various spaces is maintained properly.
The system must control humidity so that it remains constant in all parts of the room or the building for maximum comfort of the inmates.

All the modern HVAC systems are designed to handle both the functions of heating and cooling, with easy changeover between them. The operating principle is quite simple. In summer, the heated air in the room comes into contact with the cooling coil in the air conditioning system. The liquid refrigerant in the coil is vaporised by the room heat. The vapour travels along the coil and gets condensed back into liquid. In this process, the excess heat is pushed out into the outside atmosphere. This process is repeated until the room is cooled to the desired level. In winter, the same process is reversed to remove the chillness in the room and heat it up.

In the United Kingdom, the HVAC, refrigeration, electrotechnical and plumbing industries are governed by the Chartered Institute of Building Service Engineers. However, the HVAC system design in UK and all other parts of the world are based on the standards set by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air conditioning Engineers or ASHRAE. We ensure that the air conditioning systems and installations in your building conform to all the international norms and standards.

Individual rooms are generally fitted with window or monoblock air conditioners. Larger rooms and small buildings are heated and cooled by split air conditioning systems. In these systems, the evaporator unit is installed inside the building. The condenser unit is fixed outside the building. Large buildings and complexes use packaged air conditioning systems.

You wish to have your building air conditioned. It might be a small home or an apartment. Otherwise, it might even be a large mansion or a commercial complex or a warehouse. You may be living in any city or town in UK. Whatever be the size of your building and wherever be the place of your residence, talk to our experts to get the ideal HVAC solution for your building.
